Alabama running back Jalston Fowler will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury, head coach Nick Saban announced on Monday. The junior sustained the injury during Saturday’s game vs. Western Kentucky and was seen in serious pain as he left the field with a trainer.
The 6-foot-1, 242-pound bruiser was typically used in short-yardage and goal line situations. He had also lined up as a fullback, a new wrinkle in Alabama’s offense under offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier.
Fowler tallied 85 yards on 11 carries as well as a six-yard reception in 2012. Last season as the third running back behind heisman trophy finalist Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacy, Fowler notched 383 yards and four touchdowns on 56 carries.
