Alabama football’s already top-ranked 2019 recruiting class continued to pad its lead with two commitments from four-star pass catchers on Friday.
John Metchie, a 6-foot wide receiver from The Peddie School in Hightstown, New Jersey, and Jahleel Billingsley, a 6-foot-4 tight end from Phillips Academy in Chicago, announced their decisions little more than an hour apart in videos posted to their Twitter accounts.
Metchie’s video features him working out for most of the video and donning an Alabama backpack at the end. In Billingsley’s, he dictates a letter to his late grandmother and lays an Alabama shirt over her gravestone.
Metchie is ranked 41st in the country at his position and 276th overall, while Billingsley is the 11th-ranked tight end and 294th overall, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
These two commitments bring Alabama’s total for the 2019 recruiting cycle to 20 and extends its lead atop the team rankings. The points difference between the Crimson Tide and second-ranked Texas A&M is now nearly equal to the difference between Texas A&M and No. 7 Oregon.
Alabama also has as many five- and four-star recruits committed as do Texas A&M and No. 3 LSU combined.
