University of Alabama men’s tennis is off to its best start in program history.
The Crimson Tide defeated San Diego State and Lipscomb Sunday. The two victories on Sunday makes them a perfect 12-0 on the year. This marks their best start in program history surpassing the 2003 team that started 11-0.
“I’m very happy for the team and the program,” said head coach George Husack in a press release. “The coaches and support staff worked really hard and again we’re only 12 matches in so we have a long way to go, but I’m just happy for our recent success.”
Alabama started the day by beating San Diego State 4-1. Edson Ortiz and Mazen Osama, No.22 ranked doubles pair in the country got things started early for the Crimson Tide winning 6-2.
In singles, Ortiz and Osama dominated their matches pushing Alabama’s lead to 3-0. Sophomore Thibault Cancel sealed the victory for Alabama defeating Sander Andersen.
In the second match against Lipscomb the Crimson Tide went undefeated in doubles play. They went on to win in convincing fashion,4-0.
Alabama will return to action Feb. 23-24 in Birmingham.
