What students should know for Alabama’s upcoming special election

Alabama’s special senate election to fill the Senate seat previously occupied by Attorney General Jeff Sessions is rapidly approaching. The main candidates for the Dec. 12 election are democratic candidate Doug Jones and republican candidate Roy Moore. 

The last day to register for the general election is Nov. 27. 

To register for the election, students can submit an application electronically or print and mail in a form. If students cannot print a form, they can request one be sent to them by going online or by calling the Alabama Secretary of State Voter Hotline at 1-800-274-8683.

If students wish to submit an absentee ballot, it must be submitted by Dec. 7. To obtain an absentee ballot, contact your local Absentee Election Manager by visiting their office or mailing a request. To find the address of your county’s Absentee Election Manager, students are encouraged to visit http://sos.alabama.gov/alabama-votes/absentee-election-manager-all-counties.

During this election, voting in the Alabama House District 4 (parts of Limestone and Morgan Counties) special primary election and Alabama Senate District 26 (part of Montgomery County) special primary election will also be taking place.
