Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts has been announced as a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien award, given to the nation’s top quarterback. Hurts is one of 16 semifinalists. Other notable names include Louisville’s Lamar Jackson, Clemson’ Kelly Bryant and Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield.
The 16 semifinalists will be narrowed down to just three players on Nov. 20, and the winner will be announced on Dec. 7 at the College Football Awards on ESPN.
This season, Hurts has 1406 yards, 10 touchdowns and only one interception. His season high came against Colorado State, where he passed for 248 yards and two touchdowns.
On the ground, Hurts has rushed for 616 yards and seven touchdowns. He averages 6.3 yards per carry. He has three games with more than 100 yards rushing this season.
Hurts is one of two quarterbacks from the SEC to be selected as a semifinalist, with Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald also being named. Hurts is also a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, given to the nation’s top offensive player.
