My column today was an introduction to the blog, so I feel like I should spare those of you who have taken the initiative to come look at the blog another promotion of the blog. This is our first day doing this, but I hope it will be a positive development for the CW and for campus. So please check back with us regularly, as we become more active online. You can find my column describing the blog and our new online poll here: https://www.thecrimsonwhite.com/2011/01/14/resolutions-for-the-opinions-page/.
Now, to get the discussion started. Last night, a few of us from the CW went to attend the first SGA Senate meeting of the new semester. There, SGA President James Fowler appointed Nancy Hogan to serve as his new senior advisor. Hogan has served as the president of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, the Black Student Union, and the campus chapter of the NAACP.
We have heard a lot about diversity from the SGA this year, but this is the first time the SGA has brought in someone who is so well positioned to reach out and bring different communities into the SGA. Hopefully, the SGA will support Hogan in bringing in more students and considering different perspectives.
This is definitely a great move by Fowler. Hopefully, whoever succeeds him will keep Hogan involved. As a junior, she has already made a very impressive mark on campus. However, her new post gives her the ability to make a mark on the SGA, an organization that desperately needs her experience, perspective, and abilities.
