PRACTICE REPORT: Alabama football works to clean up offense before Ole Miss

PRACTICE+REPORT%3A+Alabama+football+works+to+clean+up+offense+before+Ole+Miss

After some meshing problems with read-option plays the first two weeks, Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin had the quarterbacks working through the play during Wednesday’s practice.

Alabama plays its first SEC contest against Ole Miss on Saturday, and turnovers could prove to be a determining factor of which team wins — again. Last year, the Crimson Tide gave up five turnovers to the Rebels to lose its only game of the season.

Addition Practice Notes:

  • Defensive backs and inside linebackers worked against a scout-team receiving core. Some of the numbers represented were of freshman A.J. Brown and senior Quincy Adeboyejo.
  • The offensive line also faced a scout team on the opposite side of the field at the same time as its counterpart.
  • The defensive backs also spent time focusing one-on-one coverage with Alabama coach Nick Saban.

  • Quarterback Jalen Hurts was working with running back Damien Harris, the same combination that led to a fumble in the USC opener.
  • After the read-option drills, the running backs began to run wheel routes and catch passes from the quarterbacks.
  • Outside linebackers worked on burst drills with bands around their waist. They later worked on swim drills against dummies.
