The Southeastern Conference announced that Alabama running back Joshua Jacobs was named the freshman of the week after his performance against Kentucky.
“Really happy that Josh Jacobs got named SEC freshman of the week,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said. “It’s a great honor for him and I think he did a fantastic job in the game.”
Jacobs made his first start homecoming weekend, as fellow running back Damien Harris was limited with an ankle injury. Jacobs gained 100 yards rushing and added a touchdown. He also caught the ball three times for 44 yards.
“He runs very physically,” offensive lineman Bradley Bozeman said. “He doesn’t stop. He keeps going like you’re supposed to do. He’s a great runner.”
Alabama players of the week
The UA coach staff also named nine players of the week following Saturday’s game.
On offense, wide receiver Calvin Ridley, offensive lineman Cam Robinson and Jacobs were chosen. Linebackers Reuben Foster, Shaun Dion Hamilton and Tim Williams were recognized for the defense. Then, on special teams, Keaton Anderson, Adam Griffith and Bo Scarbrough were picked.
