Since 1996, the College of Communication and Information Sciences has welcomed almost 100 members into its Hall of Fame. The 2016 class of inductees will be recognized based on their accomplishments and prominence within the college.
Various people from around the nation appoint the members, with the nomination process starting at a Board of Visitors. The Board of Visitors is made up of alumni and professionals in the field who are devoted to the success of the college in some way.
WHO: Current Hall of Fame members, the new inductees, UA faculty, anyone who purchases a ticket
WHAT: A black-tie event to induct the new Hall of Fame members
WHERE: The North Zone of Bryant-Denny Stadium
WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 6, reception is at 6 p.m., followed by the induction ceremony at 7 p.m.
WHY: To recognize the achievements of the new inductees, and to celebrate the previous ones.
“Each year, inductees are carefully selected based on their accomplishments and prominence within the College,” said Dr. Mark Nelson, dean of the College of Communication and Information Sciences. “This year, we are inducting our 98th, 99th, 100th and 101st members.”
The Hall of Fame gallery is located in the rotunda of Reese Phifer Hall. The new inductees include Rick Bragg, Eli Gold, James Spann and George Stewart.
“The Hall of Fame was designed to preserve, to perpetuate and to honor those who have made a difference in the state of Alabama and our university through their devotion, expertise and support in the fields of communication and information,” Nelson said. “The Hall of Fame committee have the truly arduous task of narrowing it down to four or five honorees each year.”
