First Year Council convened on Tuesday night and discussed two resolutions. One dealt with community forums in the residence halls of FYC councilors and the other focused on “reformation of mental health awareness programs on campus,” according to its title.
The first resolution, R-01, was authored by Councilor Mason Lake. It was first introduced last week and was discharged from the Student Affairs Committee with a favorable denotation.
The resolution focuses on encouraging councilors to give freshmen in residence halls of FYC councilors the opportunity to voice their concerns. The means to voice their concerns could include suggestion boxes and community forums.
Ultimately, the resolution was passed.
In addition, FYC discussed R-02. The resolution encourages the University to reform mental health awareness programs on campus.
The resolution advocates for the creation of an “online module”, similar to AlcoholEdu and Haven, which would focus on mental health and would be completed annually by students.
The resolution is currently awaiting review by the Student Affairs Committee.
