On Friday, No. 6 Alabama softball leaned on junior right-hander Sydney Littlejohn to deliver. She did. On Sunday, the team needed her again. She pitched seven shutout innings in the 3-0 win to beat No. 1 Florida and secure the conference series.

Littlejohn (14-2) picked up her second win of the weekend Sunday. She allowed two hits, walked two, hit two and struck out two in the win. Over the weekend, she pitched 13 1/3 innings and allowed one run.

Offensively, Alabama put up two runs in the first inning, both unearned. Senior centerfielder Haylie McCleney led off with an infield single. Junior utility Chandler Dare sacrificed her to second and reached on a throwing error that sent McCleney home. Dare moved to third on the throw home. Dare scored on a passed ball on a dropped third strike. Alabama didn’t score again until the sixth. Sophomore transfer Sydney Booker hit an RBI double to make it 3-0 Alabama.

Florida’s rally in the seventh fell short. The Gators left one on base.

Alabama held Florida to its lowest offensive output this weekend, keeping the Gators to four runs. The Crimson Tide is also the first team to win a series over Florida in more than a calendar year.

Alabama (31-7) returns to Rhoads Stadium on Tuesday at 6 p.m. to take on Mississippi Valley State (8-19).
