On Sunday night, Coach Wes Hart and the Alabama soccer team dropped their third loss of the season on the road against the Rhode Island Rams with a final score of 1-0.
In the first period, Alabama tried to find their rhythm on offense after coming out empty handed in their last game against Harvard. The Crimson Tide had three shot attempts with one on goal by forward Alexis Mouton.
The Rams took two shots in the first missing wide on both. Alabama’s goalkeeper Emily Rusk had no pressure at the goal with zero saves in the first period, after tying her season high seven saves on Friday against Harvard.
The Crimson Tide turned on the offensive momentum to start the second period with an early shot on goal taking by Emma Welch in the 52nd minute. Between the 64th and 65th minute, both teams had scoring opportunities when Alabama’s Hailey Brohaugh had her shot saved by Nickles and Rhode Island’s Alexa Elworthy missed high.
The Crimson Tide followed that up with two more shot attempts on goal by Welch and Noelle Sanz. The Rams would respond with their shot on goal leading to a point on the board taking by forward Ari Stanton and assisted by Chelsea Gates. Stanton goal was the first goal on Rusk since the season opener against the Memphis Tigers.
Alabama finished the match with ten shot attempts with five on goal. Rhode Island finished the game with six shots and the only shot on goal leading to points.
The Crimson Tide will return home this Friday to begin SEC play against the unbeaten LSU Tigers. Opening kick begins at 7 p.m. CT.
