It’s been a long, arduous season for the Alabama women’s golf team. After a rocky start to the season, the Crimson Tide hasn’t experienced much luck on the greens.
Although some might be discouraged by these results, coach Mic Potter said he has seen a lot of progress from his team in the past weeks, especially after the team’s last tournament.
“They’re working really hard,” Potter said. “They’re working on the right things. Whenever you do that, you are bound to improve.”
With the plan to peak toward the end of the season, the Crimson Tide will compete in the PING ASU Invitational this weekend in Arizona. It is Alabama’s final tournament before going into the SEC championship next week in Birmingham.
The last time Alabama competed in the PING ASU Invitational was during the 2012-13 season. The team won the tournament in the final round. Emma Talley, then a freshman, won in individuals.
Potter said the PING ASU in his mind is the lead into the post-season. Alabama has less than a week turnaround between this tournament and the SECs.
“I always like playing your way into tournaments instead of practicing into tournaments,” he said. “It’s about the process and I’m confident that we’re sticking to the process. I’m confident that the girls are doing a good job preparing and analyzing what they need to do and taking measures to improve every day.”
During Alabama’s last tournament at the Liz Murphey Intercollegiate, freshman Lakareber Abe, Alabama’s second-highest scorer, had a wrist and shoulder injury, and has since returned to the greens
Alongside Abe, Talley, Janie Jackson, Cammie Gray and Mia Landegren will represent Alabama at ASU. Freshman Nicole Morales will play in the individual tournament.
