The 2012-2013 season for the Alabama women’s tennis team was a season of milestones, both as a team and as individuals.

The biggest was achieved by senior Alexa Guarachi. Earlier this month Guarachi won her 103rd career match at Alabama passing Robin Stephenson to become the all-time winningest player in school history.

“I’m so lucky to have the opportunity to play here and do something like that; it has been an awesome experience,” Guarachi said.

Guarachi choose to come to Alabama over Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Florida State and Ole Miss. The Destin, Fla., native said she didn’t choose to come to Alabama to break records but to be a team player.

“I never came here thinking that I would do something like this; I wasn’t looking at records or anything like that,” Guarachi said. “I did come here because I wanted to make a difference, and I wanted to lead a legacy.”

Head coach Jenny Mainz said Guarachi has definitely led a legacy that will go down in school history.

“To be the winningest player at The University of Alabama is a feat that is outstanding,” Mainz said. “Her legacy will last forever here she made program history.”

Guarachi said throughout her career playing for the Tide she just continued to focus on winning match after match and didn’t worry about the record even when she was getting close to it.

“I think about every match and every point when I’m playing,” Guarachi said. “I don’t really think about the records and all that stuff.”

Guarachi’s most memorable part of playing at Alabama has been her team. She said she wouldn’t have achieved the record without the help from her teammates.

I wouldn’t be the player I am today without my teammates,” Guarachi said. “They made me better every day and so did all my coaches here.”

Mainz said Guarachi came to Alabama with the mindset and the potential to break the record and have the most wins in school history.

“She has done a great job leading us on the court and this is a goal she had set that she was eager for,” Mainz said. “That is what she wanted to do when she selected to come and play for us.”

Despite becoming the all-time winningest player in program history, Mainz believes Guarachi isn’t done breaking records and winning awards just yet as the Tide head into the postseason.

“She isn’t done yet, she has got a lot of good stuff in front of her,” Mainz said. “I told her the great thing about you is your best tennis is still in front of you and I really believe that she isn’t done great things ahead for Alexa Guarachi.”
