The University of Alabama Board of Trustees has invited Guy Bailey, the current president at Texas Tech University, to interview with them for the UA president job on Wednesday.
But who is this Guy? Below, you can view online articles and YouTube videos that might shed light on the character and leadership style of a prospective successor to former University President Robert Witt.
First, a short biography: born in Montgomery, Ala., Bailey attended UA from 1968 to 1974, earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English. Before becoming president at Texas Tech, he was Chancellor of the University of Missouri-Kansas City from 2006 to 2008, and Provost and Executive Vice President at The University of Texas at San Antonio from 1999 to 2005.
In the first video, Bailey meets with the Texas Tech University chess club; in the second, with the Tech SGA. In the third video, Bailey answers questions from seventh- and eighth-grade students from the Talkington School for Young Women Leaders. In the fourth, an interviewer meets with Bailey during a trip to Washington, D.C. to meet with the Texas Congressional Delegation, and in the fifth, the Tech President serves hot dogs to students.
