No. 12 Alabama gymnastics traveled to Ann Arbor to take on the No. 17 Michigan Wolverines on Saturday evening. The Crimson Tide ended the regular season with a 197.05-196.675 road victory.
“Tonight was a great road win for us,” head coach Ashley Johnston said. “Overall, what I’m most proud of is how this team stayed locked in. They stayed focused.”
Rotation 1
Alabama started on the uneven bars, and Michigan started the competition on the vault. For the first rotation, the Crimson Tide posted a 49.25 to the Wolverines’ 49.
Graduate student Shania Adams earned the Crimson Tide’s highest uneven bars score, a 9.925, and took the uneven bars title.
Rotation 2
For the second rotation, Alabama was on the vault and Michigan was on the uneven bars. The Crimson Tide scored a 49.275 and the Wolverines earned a 49.175. This put Alabama in the lead 98.525-98.175.
Senior Jordyn Paradise earned the vault title with a 9.9.
Rotation 3
Alabama was on the floor for the third rotation and brought its total to 147.675 after posting a 49.15. Michigan posted a 49.225 on the balance beam to bring its overall score to 147.4.
The Crimson Tide had a less-than-ideal floor rotation with no scores of 9.9 or higher after several gymnasts stumbled when landing tumbling passes.
“They fought, they dug in,” Johnston said. “Certain performances were really outstanding, and then there were a few ones that they had to put behind them to move forward and continue to create momentum, and I thought they did that tonight.”
Adams and senior Lilly Hudson earned a 9.875 to land the highest score for Alabama. Hudson and Adams shared the floor title with Michigan’s Sophie Parenti and Carly Bauman.
Rotation 4
The final rotation had Alabama on the balance beam and Michigan on the floor. The Crimson Tide posted a 49.375, and Michigan posted a 49.275.
Alabama’s highest score was 9.975 from Hudson, which landed her the balance beam title.
Alabama will be back in action for the SEC championships Saturday. The meet will be held at Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama, and will have two sessions: 2:30 and 7 p.m. CT.
