BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Alabama Power reports that its crews have restored electrical service to more than 180,000 homes across the state.
The state’s largest electric utility has about 227,000 customers still without power due to damage from storms and tornadoes. A company spokesman says about 100,000 outages remain in Jefferson and Shelby counties and about 105,000 in Bibb, Walker and Tuscaloosa counties. Less than 18,000 remain in the area around Anniston, Gadsden and Oxford and about 3,800 around Selma, Montgomery and Opelika.
Alabama Power says crews have come from 10 other states to help and 6,300 people are working to restore service to its customers.
