Alabama women’s basketball fell to Texas A&M 70-43, on Sunday afternoon extending its losing streak to three. Alabama is now 9-8 (1-3 SEC) on the season while Texas A&M is 13-4 (2-2 SEC).

Junior Cierra Johnson led the Crimson Tide with eight points and six rebounds. Eight different players for Alabama scored during the contest.

In the first quarter, the Aggies jumped out to a 15-6 lead and Alabama could never rally back. At halftime, Texas A&M had a commanding 31-17 lead. For a large part of the game, the Aggies had a double-digit lead.

Freshman De’Sha Benjamin cut the lead to nine with a three-pointer with four minutes in the third quarter. However, Texas A&M finished the quarter on a 13-0 run to have a 53-31 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Aggies held on to the comfortable lead for the remainder of the game.

Alabama went 17-of-63 for 27 percent shooting in the game, while Texas A&M went 21-of-54 and 38 percent from the field. The Aggies outrebounded the Crimson Tide 47-38 and forced 14 turnovers by Alabama. Alabama finished 8-of-12 from the foul line for 66 percent.

The Crimson Tide returns home for a two-game homestand starting with No.13 Tennessee on Thursday, Jan.17. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m. CT.
