Alabama fell to No. 19 Texas A&M on Saturday 2-1 in 11 innings. With the loss, Alabama is 21-16 on the season and 5-10 in the SEC.
After a lead off error, Michael Helman grounded back to the pitcher, but he reached first off a fielder’s choice. He stole second to advance into scoring position. Braden Shewmake won the game when he singled up the middle, scoring Helman.
Alabama had to came back to force extras. In the eighth inning, Chandler Taylor drove in the first Alabama run of the game when he launched a solo home run over right field.
The Crimson Tide started the ninth with a line out and a strikeout. Matt Malkin singled to right field to keep the game going. Connor Stutts came in to pinch run for Malkin. He came in to score when Chandler Avant came off the bench and doubled to center field.
Cobie Vance led the team in hits. He finished with two of Alabama’s six hits, including one of its two doubles.
Garret Rukes got back on track with this start. He allowed one hit over 2 1/3 innings. He threw 40 pitches.
Deacon Medders finished with the loss. He allowed one unearned run over 4 1/3 innings pitched. The Aggies scored their other runs against Kyle Cameron. Only one of the runs was earned.
Alabama hosts Samford on Tuesday and Alcorn State on Wednesday. First pitch Tuesday is set for 6 p.m.
