Rain forced Alabama football’s final practice before the Easter weekend to take place inside the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility. The players will have the weekend off and return to practice on Tuesday. Here are our observations from the fifth of 15 spring practices:
- Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, like Tuesday, stood off to the side as the other quarterbacks threw to each other to warm up, then rejoined them afterward.
- Four offensive linemen at a time crouched under a covering, each facing another lineman. When coach Brent Key simulated the call for the snap, they stood up to block their respective linemen. Jonah Williams, Ross Pierschbacher, Lester Cotton, and Jedrick Wills participated in the first installment.
- The running backs, led by Damien Harris, Najee Harris, and Brian Robinson, high-stepped over pads and then ducked to run below an arch. After that, they briefly practiced taking handoffs from quarterbacks.
- The wide receivers worked on running, quickly stopping, and then starting again, also weaving through a line of cones at the same time. Once they got past every cone, they caught a pass from a coach. Henry Ruggs and DeVonta Smith were the first two to run the drill. They later caught passes from the quarterbacks while working on route-running.
- Trevon Diggs, Shyheim Carter, Xavier McKinney, Deionte Thompson, and one other defensive back acted as corners and covered other DBs who acted as receivers.
