President Stuart Bell denounced the scheduled talk by a white nationalist in an email Thursday evening.
“This ideology is counter to our institutional values,” Bell said in the email.
Bell said because The University of Alabama is a public university and one dedicated to upholding free speech, the University can not stop this meeting.
The student organization Students for America First will be hosting Jared Taylor from the publication American Renaissance. Bell said the University didn’t invite or condone the presence of the speaker, and the best solution is to not attend the event.
“The security of our campus is our absolute priority,” Bell said. “Hate and bigotry have no place at The University of Alabama.”
