Alabama basketball fell on the road to Texas A&M, 68-66, to end the regular season on a five-game losing streak. It is the first losing streak of five games since the 2005 season.
Alabama finished the season 17-14 overall and 8-10 in the SEC. The Crimson Tide will need a big performance in the SEC Tournament if it wants any shot of making the NCAA Tournament. Alabama ended the season with a 2-8 record in road games.
Agains the Aggies, guard Collin Sexton led the way with 23 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field and 13-of-17 from the free throw line.
Forward Donta Hall was the only other player to score in double figures with 12 points.
Texas A&M and Alabama battled for all 40 minutes. There were 15 lead changes and 11 ties. One of the more controversial moments came when Texas A&M guard TJ Starks pushed Sexton in the head, but the refs ruled that it was a technical foul for both teams.
Alabama coach Avery Johnson told reporters after the game that Sexton was also awarded a technical foul for initiating the altercation.
Alabama once again got out-rebounded with Texas A&M earning a 46-40 edge on the glass. The Aggies had 16 offensive rebound, making it the fourth time in five games that Alabama has given up double-digit offensive rebounds.
Alabama will either be the No. 9 or No. 10 seed in the SEC Tournament, and will play on March 8 in St. Louis, Missouri. Alabama’s opponent has not been determined.
