With 15 sports, 102 events and 2,952 athletes, it is easy to get lost in the Olympics. In order to get really invested in the game, it is helpful to know where to look for those special Olympic moments that you will be telling your kids about for years to come. Here are a few Olympic stars to keep an eye out for during the remainder of the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang, which conclude on Feb. 25.
Mirai Nagasu
Four short years ago, Mirai Nagasu was passed over for a spot on the Sochi Olympic team, but now she’s making history. During the team figure skating event, Nagasu became the first woman to ever land a triple axel in an Olympic competition. She will be skating again in the ladies single skating competition and plans to attempt the same groundbreaking jump again. You can watch her skate on NBC at 7 p.m. today, Tuesday Feb. 20 (short program), and Thursday (free skate).
Elana Myers Taylor
Taylor is taking women’s bobsledding where it has never been before. Not only is she one of the first women to compete on mixed-gender four-men sleds, she is the first American woman to ever win a bobsled world championship. She medaled in Sochi, but this year she is going for the gold. The bobsled competition runs until the closing ceremonies. Medal ceremonies will be held on Feb. 19, 21 and 25.
Lindsey Vonn
An Olympic veteran, Vonn did not have the favorable start to the 2018 Pyeongchang Games for which she had hoped. She slid off course during her run at the women’s super-G event, thus forfeiting her chance at a medal. However, she has one more chance to grab some hardware before she heads back home. Her last shot at a medal will be in the downhill skiing race this Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m.
Women’s Hockey Team
On Sunday, the USA women’s hockey team crushed Finland to secure their spot to play for the gold medal. Finland lost 5-0, allowing the American women to play for Olympic gold for the third Olympic Games in a row. The showdown to determine the next Olympic champion team will be this Thursday at 10:10 p.m.
