Downtown Northport will be getting into the Christmas spirit during their annual Victorian Holiday Celebration known as Dickens Downtown. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight, Dec. 5, residents and passers-by alike are welcome to join the festivities.
Dickens Downtown celebrates the spirit of Christmas through the means of music and theater. Theatre Tuscaloosa will be performing scenes from their upcoming production of “A Christmas Carol”, which will make its debut performance on Dec. 8. The 5th Alabama Regimental Band and local choirs will also be joining Theatre Tuscaloosa to bring about the holiday spirit.
This Victorian holiday is a community-supported gathering. Small businesses and neighborhoods join in on the celebration and host open houses during the event.
The display of Christmas spirit is also seen in the costumes and decorations that fill the celebration. Santa Claus will make an appearance and appropriate Christmas costumes of any kind are encouraged. There will also be an English Town Crier to transform Historic Downtown Northport into a Victorian-age scape.
