The River Pitch Business Idea Competition is an event for community members and students to pitch their ideas for their own business. Each pitch is given three minutes, and those who participate gain experience to improve their pitch and develop their business ideas. The winner of the competition will receive $1,000.

What: The River Pitch Competition

Who: The University of Alabama, Culverhouse College of Commerce, the city of Tuscaloosa and The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama.

When: Tuesday, Nov. 14 from 5-9 p.m.

Why: “Our mission here is to support business entrepreneurial start-ups and growth,” said Tommie Syx, a program specialist with the Alabama Entrepreneurial Institute.

The River Pitch Competition is being held as a celebration of Global Entrepreneurial Week. This aims to inspire entrepreneurial activity in over 160 countries. It also looks to connect people trying to start their own business with potential investors, mentors and fellow collaborators.

“Registration ends this week, and there are limited slots available so if you are interested you need to contact us as soon as possible,” said Syx.
