Alabama soccer notched its second straight SEC win with a 1-0 road victory over Arkansas on Thursday night. With her critical goal in the 74th minute of action, coming off an assist from junior Emma Welch, redshirt freshman Chloe Maize lifted Alabama to 10-6-1 on the season and 2-5-1 in conference play.

In accordance with coach Wes Hart’s offensive mentality, Alabama attacked Arkansas early, launching two shots in the first five minutes of the contest. The Crimson Tide continued its assault on the Razorbacks’ goal throughout the first half, putting up seven shots by halftime. However, Alabama was unable to capitalize and the game was tied at 0-0 entering the second period.

Alabama and Arkansas were deadlocked in a possession battle for the majority of the second half, until Maize netted the game’s lone goal with under 16 minutes left in the game. Maize netted her second goal of the season after Welch belted a long pass to her inside the Razorbacks’ 6-yard box. Arkansas mounted several scoring attempts within the final 10 minutes of play to no avail and the game ended with Alabama claiming victory over the Razorbacks in Fayetteville for the sixth time in program history.

Although it only registered one goal, the Crimson Tide’s offense was firing on all cylinders on Thursday, with Alabama putting up 15 shots during the matchup. Alabama’s defense held strong against the Razorback attack, only allowing a meager six shots.

Alabama’s senior goalkeeper Kat Stratton recorded her fifth shutout of the season after making one save in 90 minutes of play.

Looking to add another SEC win to its resume, the Crimson Tide will take on the Missouri in the team’s last home game of the season on Sunday at 6 p.m. With the SEC tournament quickly approaching, Alabama needs to continue its winning streak against conference opponents to secure qualification.
