The University of Alabama’s ALLELE seminar series continues with its second lecture of the academic year. The series, which is hosted by a committee at the University called the Evolution Working Group, focuses on educational lectures on evolution that are made available to the public.

What: ALLELE Lecture: “From Madagascar to Microscopes: Breathing Life into Dinosaurs”

Who: Dr. Kirsti Curry Rogers, a vertebrate paleontologist from Macalester College who has been an on-screen expert for programs aired on PBS, BBC Horizon, the Discovery Channel and the National Geographic Channel.

When: Thursday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m.

Where: 2008 North Lawn

Why: Thomas Tobin, an assistant professor in the Department of Geological Sciences who has helped organize the event, said there is more to paleontology than people think. 

“It isn’t just finding a bone,” Tobin said. “And it will give students a sense of what we can learn from bones besides the fact that dinosaurs existed.” 

Tobin went on to say that Dr. Rogers is exceptional at communicating the science comprehensibly to the public. 

“Any undergraduate student should be able to understand what is going on easily,” Tobin said.
