The Career Center hosted their most successful Diverse Reverse Career Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 27, attracting more employers than ever before. This is the Career Center’s third year putting on this event in conjunction with Hispanic Latino Heritage month

The Diverse Reverse Career Fair goes beyond just information booths. It shifts the normal career fair concept by presenting elite and diverse campus organizations at the fair so that employers can identify strong candidates for their company.  

“As much as I’d like to take credit for this wonderful idea, I learned about it from another school and decided that it would be a great event to incorporate into our career center,” said Melinda King, executive director of the career fair.

There were a number of organizations there that felt that the Diverse Reverse Fair was more beneficial than the regular career fair, because it allows the employers to come to the students and make connections they may not otherwise get. Organizations such as The Black Student Union, Zebras, Crimson Racing, UA Blend, Beat Auburn Beat Hunger, University of Alabama Dance Marathon and Kappa Alpha were able to promote and explain their causes to employers and those in attendance. 

For example, PJ Hatcher, senior president of Kappa Alpha was spreading awareness for their Pink Light Initiative. 

“We’re hoping to raise enough money and awareness so we can light up frat row,” Hatcher said.

With the success prevalent at this fair, the Career Center plans to host future events with even more organizations and employers reaching out to these involved University students.
