Alabama Students without Borders have brought the Pulsera Project, a nonprofit organization focused on selling handwoven bracelets, or “pulseras,” to the University of Alabama. The Pulsera Project allows artisan in Guatemala and Nicaragua to sell their goods and receive funds for education and community empowerment programs in their countries.

Sophie Williams, a senior majoring in English and biology, and Daniella Garcia, a senior majoring in exercise and sports science, have set up their booth in the lobby at the Ferguson Student Center, selling colorful bracelets and bags for $5 and $10.  

“Last year we raised over $1,600, so it wasn’t a question that we would do it again,” Williams said. 

Each bracelet has its very own tag stating who crafted the piece and where they are from, making you feel a connection to the cause and who your money is being sent to. These artists range from ages 18 to 50 years old and take anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes on each piece of art. 

Members will be selling these and advocating for their cause until Sept. 29. Students are encouraged to stop by to learn more information and support the Pulsera Project.
