The Visiting Writers Series will welcome Douglas Kearney to the UA campus on Thursday, September 14. Students are invited to come meet Kearney and discuss his works in the literary world. The event will take place from 7-8 p.m. at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center, where students can attend for free.
Kearney’s six published books have earned him both awards and praises from sources such as Publisher’s Weekly. His most recent book, Buck Studies (Fence Books, 2016), was a winner of the CLMP Firecracker Award for Poetry and silver medalist for the California Book Award for poetry. Furthermore, Kearney’s works on poetry and performance, Mess and Mess and (Noemi Press, 2015), was a Small Press Distribution Handpicked Selection and applauded as “an extraordinary book” by Publisher’s Weekly.
During this Visiting Writers Series event, students with a taste for poetry and creative writing will be able to speak with and learn from an expert in writing poetry in today’s world. Kearney will be traveling from his home in Santa Clarita Valley to meet the young creative writers the University of Alabama has to offer.
