The University of Alabama now has an app dedicated to the safety and assistance of students. Known simply as the UA Safety App, it is available for download on IOS and Android devices. The app will aid students by providing information such as the weather alerts, safety guidelines and the locations of on-campus storm shelters.
The app has emergency contact numbers saved and on speed dial, including UAPD, DCH Regional Medical Center and Poison Control. UA Alerts will also be sent to all devices with the safety app installed. The National Weather Service provides the UA Safety App with up-to-date information in case of weather emergencies.
The app has GPS capabilities and can provide directions to all buildings on campus. This feature could prove helpful in non-emergency situations, especially to freshmen and incoming students who could use assistance in finding their classes.
The app was created by the Office of Emergency Preparedness working with CAPS. Price McGiffert, who is VP of External Affairs for the Hunter administration, called the app “truly incredible.”
