Jason Bivin, a professor of Religious Studies at North Carolina State University, will deliver the lecture. Bivin will discuss the intersection of religion and politics in the United States after the 1900s. “This will be Dr. Bivin’s first time at The University of Alabama,” said Russell McCutcheon, chair of the College of Arts and Sciences department. “He specializes in religion and jazz in America.”
Bivin is the author of “Spirits Rejoice! Jazz, American Religion and The Politics of Horror in Conservative Evangelicalism,” from which much of his lecture will be based. His book is now available in the SUPEStore.
The Day Lecture is dedicated to UA alumnus Zachary Day who was a Religious Studies major, Anthropology minor and Silverstein Scholar during his time at the University. In memory of Day, his father, Charles Day, his stepmother, Nancy Campbell and his friends and family, the department created the Zachary Day Memorial Support Fund which supports the costs of the annual Day Lecture.
