This year, the 59th annual Grammy Awards Show was broadcasted live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. James Corden hosted the Grammys, instead of LL Cool J, who has been the show’s emcee for the past five years.
The show opened with singer-song writer Adele singing her most popular song “Hello.” Another highly talked about performance was Beyoncé, who still wowed the world with a performance just a week after her big pregnancy announcement. The 35-year-old singer serenaded the crowd with renditions of her songs “Sandcastles” and “Love Drought.”
“There were so many amazing performances at the Grammys this year, but I definitely thought Beyoncé did the best,” said Katharine Starke, a freshman majoring in accounting. “I’ve already seen her in concert once, but I would love to see her live again.”
The awards show also had performances by Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, John Legend, Katy Perry and many others artists performing their top hits.
Many of the world’s most popular artists stole the show by winning multiple different awards. Chance the Rapper won three awards for Best Rap Album, Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance. By the end of the night, Adele ended up with five Grammys, all for her album “25” or song “Hello.”
Adele also took home the very anticipated Album of the Year award. The British singer broke her Grammy in pieces and dedicated it to Beyoncé, who also was nominated for the award.
Beyoncé had nine Grammy nominations, which was the most an artist had this year. Rihanna, Kanye West and Drake trailed behind her with eight nominations each.
“I really enjoyed watching the Grammy Awards Show this year,” said Helen Bender, a junior majoring in English. “A lot of my favorite artists won awards, so I was really pleased with the outcome. I am already looking forward to next year’s Grammys.”
