After coming in second in the SGA presidential race, Gene Fulmer said he looks forward to continue serving the University. A junior who is involved in many help programs at the University such as Al’s Pals and “End the Stigma” ran his campaign around the phrase “students serving students.” Gene’s platform included ideas for supporting the re-branding of “End the Stigma” to a more proactive approach towards mental health, and he also advocated urging the university to become accessible to the audibly impaired.
After the results were announced, Gene remained humbled and thankful for the experience. “I truly believe we got our message out to the students,” Fulmer said.
For Fulmer and his campaign manager Ryan Murphy, the loss in the election does not stop their drive to continue their positive influence across this campus. Fulmer and Murphy said the phrase “students serving students” is more than just a campaign slogan, but something they truly believe, SGA president or not. Both stated they will continue their service towards the university.
“It has been a great learning opportunity for all involved,” Murphy said. “Even though we lost, we will continue to try to bring deaf education to The University of Alabama.”
In a statement from the Elections Board, these results are unofficial until investigation is complete into possible violations.
