The National Weather Service is forecasting stormy weather in Alabama in the upcoming week.
Starting on Monday, heavy rain is expected statewide. Tuscaloosa and surrounding areas have a slight risk of severe storms, meaning that brief tornadoes and damaging winds up to 60 mph are possible.
Central and eastern Alabama – including Birmingham, Montgomery and Auburn – have been placed at “enhanced risk,” meaning tornadoes and damaging winds up to 70 mph are more likely.
“The best chance for severe storms is along and south of the 1-59 corridor,” said the NWS website.
Storms are expected to start early in the morning in the west, and move through the state, ending in the east around mid-afternoon.
The NWS is predicting that this severe weather will then continue in the state on Wednesday.
Most of central Alabama, including Tuscaloosa, is designated as an enhanced risk area for Wednesday. Tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail are all possible.
“There is substantial uncertainty with the forecast, but this has the potential to become a serious situation,” the NWS said on their website.
