What: TEDxTuscaloosa.
This independently organized TED talks event will feature local speakers. Each will speak for about 18 minutes and share an “idea worth spreading” within the theme of mind and body.
“[The goal is that] everyone in the audience can take some nugget [from the talks]…that they can use in their life,” said Meredith Cummings, lead organizer of the event.
When: Saturday, April 30, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Where: Upstairs at Mellow Mushroom. Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Who: This event is open to the public.
Speakers have been chosen through an application process and include Rick Dowling, producer, comedian and parent, Mike Royer, retired broadcaster, Curt Anderson, magician, Darrin Griffin, assistant professor, communication department, Sheena Gregg, assistant director of nutrition education and health services, department of health promotion and wellness, Student Health Center, Rebecca Kelly, health educator and Kitty Johnson, retired English instructor.
“I’m excited about these speakers because they represent some of the best local minds that we have in Tuscaloosa,” Cummings said.

*This price includes food and drinks. Alcohol is not included, though there will be a cash bar.
Why: “I would encourage all students to go because I think in college it’s easy to…stay in a bubble,” Cummings said. “[TEDxTuscaloosa] will be a fun, relaxed way to learn new things and not even realize you’re learning.”
