Alabama redshirt freshman thrower Kord Ferguson was named the SEC men’s track and field Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. The accolade comes one week after posting a personal best shot put toss of 61-3 1/2 at the Florida State Relays, per an Alabama athletics release. Ferguson is ranked in both shot put and discus and leads the Crimson Tide on both events. He is ranked second in the nation for discus with a 193-6 opening day toss.
Ferguson is the first member of the Alabama squad to win this award since 2014.
The Alabama men’s track team posted five event wins at the Florida State Relays last week.
The track teams will next send athletes to the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Florida, March 31-April 2 and the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto on April 1.
