Alabama women’s basketball added transfer, DaiJia Ruffin, on Monday. She was named Ohio Valley Conference freshman of the week three times, and will transfer to Alabama after playing 17 games for UT Martin during the 2015-2016 season, according to head coach Kristy Curry.
Ruffin had a successful scoring season for UT Martin last season, as she averaged 14.9 points per game and scored in double figures in 14 of the 17 games she played.
“We are excited to welcome DaiJia and her family to our program,” said Curry. “DaiJia brings a unique versatility with her size and strength on the offensive end that we feel will complement our current roster, and we look forward to her continued development wearing crimson and white.”
Ruffin earned conference player of the week on Dec. 1, 2015 after she scored 22 points at Southern Illinois and 17 in a home game against Chattanooga. Ruffin played high school ball at Sacred Heart Academy, where she was a finalist for the 2014 Kentucky Miss Basketball award.
In her lone game against Alabama last season, Ruffin helped the Skyhawks give Alabama its first loss of the season by scoring 21 points in her 40 minutes of action.
