There are two names on the United States Sports Academy’s ballot for January’s Athlete of the Month that students and Tuscaloosa residents should recognize.
Tight end O.J. Howard was one of six male athletes to appear on the ballot. Howard caught 5 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns to help the Crimson Tide defeat Clemson and secure another national title for Alabama.
Howard is joined by Tuscaloosa native and current WBC Heavyweight Champion of the World, Deontay Wilder. Wilder defeated Artur Szpilka by knocking him out in the ninth round on Jan. 16.
The Academy encourages people to vote for athletes on its site. Voting closes on Feb. 12 at which point one male and one female candidate will win the monthly award and automatically be entered for consideration in the Athlete of the year honor.
