What: Bead for Life Marketplace
Who: The Women and Gender Resource Center
When: Dec. 1 to Dec. 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: The Women and Gender Resource Center
Why: According to Paige Miller, each year, there is a meeting with all of the Southeastern College Women’s Centers.
“At one of the meetings a few years ago, we got the idea of hosting the Bead for Life Marketplace from the Women’s Center at The University of North Alabama,” Miller said. “They host the event every year and we thought it was a good idea to raise awareness about global women’s issues.”
This is the second year that the event has been held at The Women and Gender Resource Center at The University of Alabama. Items that are available for purchase include bracelets, necklaces, tote bags, and shea bath products, all of which were made by Ugandan women. The items for sale cost anywhere from $4 to $40. All of the proceeds benefit education and vocation programs for those women and their families, according to events.ua.edu.
