Zombies took over the Quad Saturday as Theta Tau, the University’s engineering fraternity, hosted the “Zombie Fun Run,” an obstacle course that faces off zombies against human survivors. The course consists of different checkpoints set up around the perimeter of the Quad. Each checkpoint holds a necessary zombie apocalypse survival item. After the runners, or “survivors,” collect each item, a set amount of time is subtracted from their overall time. “The runners get duffle bags at the first point, and then they get food at another and then water,” Elizabeth Acker, the fundraising chair for Theta Tau, said. “The last one is a
n assortment of stuff, we have tents and other survival gear, like face masks. Once you pick up an item it knocks time off of your final time.” The runner with the quickest time will win a zombie apocalypse Nerf gun. Acker created the gun by taking a regular Nerf gun and adding a steampunk flair to it, she said. Every aspect of the run was created by hand. “We’ve been working on this all semester,” Lubna Alansari, vice president of Theta Tau, said. “Gradually we’ve been coming up with this idea, and everything was created by our members. It really just came about with time.” The event will run until 5 p.m. Saturday and will be held on the Quad. There is a make-up table set up at the starting point for people who are not already dressed up and need to be “zombified.” The starting point and registration table are located on the Quad across from Lloyd hall. Registration is $10.
