The Ferguson Center will be holding an off-campus housing fair Nov. 4 starting at 10 a.m. The fair will include over 25 different off campus options, and students will be able to ask different questions and get information about what each location offers.
Julie Elmore, assistant director for Off-Campus Housing said now is the time to be looking for housing options.
“We suggest that students look now then go home at Thanksgiving and discuss what their options are with their parents or another adult that may be helping them with their living expenses,” Elmore said.
Properties will also include all those shown during the Off Campus Bus Tour held back Oct. 18 and 25. Elmore said she suggests that students come with some questions in mind before attending the fair.
“Students should have an idea of what their budget is before attending the fair,” Elmore said. “They should ask the properties for information on their rates, floor plans, do they offer individual leases or joint leases, what is included in the rent (utilities, furniture, or nothing), does the property provide a shuttle and if so, what are the hours it operates.”
For students who will not have a car next semester, many off campus properties will have shuttles that bring them to and from the apartment complex. Elmore said students should ask each property, if they plan on not having a car next year.
“Some properties do have shuttles to and from campus and those properties are an option for a student that does not have a car,” Elmore said. “However, most shuttles stop at 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. so a student with a late night class may not have a ride back to the property. For those students that do have cars, signing a lease next semester should be fine. “
