According to a media release by the Tuscaloosa County Homicide Unit this morning, three University of Alabama students and one additional individual have been arrested on charges of Rape First Degree.
The victim, a 22-year-old female, was found unresponsive at the 5500 block on Old Montgomery Highway Tuesday morning on Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. She was brought to Druid City Hospital for overnight monitoring. Investigators said her condition is not life threatening.
The suspects involved in the alleged assault, Donald King, a 20-year-old male, Eddie Harris Jr., a 19-year-old male, Frederick Shaw, an 18-year-old male, and DeAndre Dussett, a 25-year-old male, admitted to having sex with the victim. Dussett was also charged with Possession of a Controlled substance.
The four were booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $30,000 bonds. Dussett was held with an additional $10,000 bond.
Witnesses told investigators that the victim was knowingly drinking a beverage, which had a controlled substance in it, the previous day at the location at which she was found. She reportedly then passed out in the bedroom of King. The witnesses also reported that the suspects had sex with the victim while she was unconscious.
Police believe that Dussett may also be charged at a later date with additional charges by the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force.
