Watch out, Birmingham! The walking dead are coming to the Iron City. Do not fear. It’s not the zombie apocalypse but the funky undead band, Here Comes The Mummies. Here Comes The Mummies is a funk rock R&B band that originated in Nashville, Tennessee. Their nameĀ speaks for itself. The nine members rock the stage in full mummy attire. They jump around and play their tunes wrapped head to toe like a long dead pharaoh. The mummy theme is not the only unique aspect about this band, all the members remain completely anonymous. Nobody knows the true identities of any of the mummies and this ancient secret has been kept under-wraps since the bandā€™s formation in the year 2000.

It is rumored that some members of the band are Grammy winners, but this has never been confirmed considering that the wraps on the Mummies identities are tighter than the ones on King Tutā€™s tomb. One rumor relating to their secret identities is due to their solo contracts with competing labels. Thus, the band uses their Mummy identities to avoid any contract violations. Each goes by a mummy name. The band includes: Mummy Cass (guitar), Java Mummy (percussion and vocals), Eddie Mummy (drums and vocals), Spaz Mummy (keyboard), K.W Mummy (bass and vocals), Mummy Rah (tenor sax), The Flu (baritone sax), The Pole (bass)Ā and B.B Queen (trumpet).Ā

Since their formation, when they are asked about how they met, the band sticks with the myth that they have actually been together for 5,000 years, jamming since before they all died and were mummified. Here Comes The Mummies are known for their song ā€œDirty Mindsā€ which has been featured on several TV shows including: “Big Shots,” “The Loop”Ā and “Scrubs.”Ā The song also was featured in the movie, “Fired Up.”

Since coming together as a band they have released seven albums, four EPs, one live album and have been on several tours around the United States. Though the undead crew primarily tours in the South and Midwest, this month they will be rolling through several states and performing at Dragon Con in Atlanta before they grace the stage at Iron City.Ā

The Mummies have gotten rave reviews on their live shows.Ā Ticketmaster fan reviews ranked the band a 4.8 out of 5, which is the same score that the Rolling Stones received. Fans on the forum said that their shows are ā€œexhilarating and entertainingā€ and thatĀ the Mummies put everything they have into their shows.Ā

Their latest release is an EP with five tracks and is available on their website. Tickets for their concert are available on Sept.Ā 24 at the Iron City website or at their box office.
