With football season starting, Tuscaloosa citizens of all ages are purchasing their Game Day gear. Typically, this might result in a shortage of crimson colored clothing, but this year will play out differently. Trend results of Fashion Week and the Met Gala have sparked a bounty of red garments that will soon be hitting store racks.  

The Met Gala, held on June 17, was flooded with crimson.  Everyone from reality star Kris Jenner to Marissa Mayer, the chief executive of Yahoo!, and even Reese Witherspoon rocked the red. The Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute, a fusion of the arts, fashion and entertainment, held the annual fund-raiser. Anna Wintour, English editor-in-chief of Vogue, issued the dress code for the event with the Costumes Institute’s fashion exhibit in mind.  

This year’s show was “China: Through the Looking Glass.”  It was fortunate for the attendees that Eastern Influence was alive on the Fashion Week runways in New York, London and Milan.  More than accents, crimson was used in head-to-toe ensembles created for those who really want to make a statement (or any Alabama fan). The color is representative of good fortune and celebration in Eastern Culture. Other Eastern aspects seen on the runways included dragons, the use of gold and embroidered detailing.  

Students and fans may not be sporting these dragon-adorned dresses, but the quick-spreading color trend will certainly lead to our good fortune on the field this fall.
