This year, head coach Kevin Sumlin wants more leadership from his team.
“Last year we lacked leadership, particularly defensively, and a lot of that is not an excuse, but when you’re a young player, you got a hard enough time trying to figure out what you’re doing instead of while you’re trying to lead somebody else,” Sumlin said during SEC Media Days on Tuesday.
Leadership on the team will come from the maturity of young players, he said.
“I see guys getting outside themselves…then going into fall camp and saying, ‘Alright, I’ve been through this before. I have a bigger responsibility to this team than just worrying about me…’” he said.
