Alpha Delta Chi sorority will be holding a bake sale Thursday to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club, their partner philanthropy.
Tara Jones, a junior majoring in communicative disorders, organized the event as Fundraising Chair for Alpha Delta Chi.
“We’re really excited,” she said. “We’re expecting it to be really popular.”
Hundreds of cookies are being donated by local businesses such as Great American Cookies, Which Wich, Zoë’s Kitchen, Edelweiss and Celebrations Bakery.
“Once I got in touch with the managers, most of them were very interested in helping in some way,” Jones said.
The bake sale is a Panhellenic event, and sororities will gain one Panhellenic point for every dollar spent.
Brittany Monte, a sophomore economics major, is an Alpha Delta Chi Panhellenic delegate as well as vice president of external affairs.
“The event will be pitched to all of the sororities,” Monte said, explaining that the Panhellenic point system helps to publicize events and encourages participation in the Greek community.
The bake sale is also being publicized through social media. It has a Facebook event page, and the sorority is encouraging people to spread the word on Twitter, using the hashtag #cookiesforacause.
“We’d really like for people to have some conversation about what’s going on,” Jones said. “People will be able to see what other people are saying about the event.”
The intent is that the hashtag and Facebook event will help to publicize the event outside of the Greek community.
“It’s way more widespread this way,” said Monte. “People who wouldn’t have any idea otherwise will see it online.”
The bake sale will be held Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the main floor of the Ferguson Center.
