For those looking for another restaurant in town that stays open late into the night, Bama Dogs could be a solution.
The original Bama Dogs is located in Birmingham, but after receiving positive feedback, the owners decided to bring the business to Tuscaloosa.
Shay Dawkins, a senior majoring in finance, and Jonathan Harris, a senior majoring in exercise science, are co-owners of the restaurant, as well as UA students. As students, Dawkins and Harris said they knew firsthand where students wanted to go around town.
Dawkins said Bama Dogs has every kind of hotdog imaginable, with as little or as much as the customers likes on a hotdog. However, Bama Dogs has more than just hotdogs, serving up items such as Philly cheesesteaks, burgers, grilled chicken, salads, corndogs, chicken fingers and ice cream.
One menu item is the LSU Special, which consists of two corndogs, chips and a drink.
Michael Arrieta, a junior majoring in management, said a restaurant like Bama Dogs is exactly what Tuscaloosa needs.
“It gives me a place to go to after the bars when I want to get something to eat and hang out with my friends,” Arrieta said. “I can tell that I’m going to be addicted to Bama Dogs.”
Dawkins said unlike other late-night places, Bama Dogs has a place for customers to sit and eat in a relaxed atmosphere.
“We want to bring the beach to Tuscaloosa,” Dawkins said. “We have loud music playing, anything from fun ’80s music to rap for the late-nighters.”
Bama Dogs is located off of University Drive on 13th Avenue., right across from The Red Shed. Their normal hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day and 10 p.m. to 3 a.m., Thursday through Saturday.
