On Dec. 7, the City of Tuscaloosa will dedicate the newly constructed Nick’s Kids Playground.
The event will take place on that morning at the playground site located alongside the Black Warrior River on the Riverwalk. Nick and Terry Saban, along with the City of Tuscaloosa, will snip the ribbon and officially open the playground.
The dedication will begin at 11 a.m. Nick and Terry Saban will be kicking off the dedication, followed by Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox. Nick’s Kids teamed up to make the playground possible with the help of Alabama Forever, the City of Tuscaloosa, Almon Associates, Hammill Recreation, the Junior League of Tuscaloosa and Mike Chambers.
“While walking along Tuscaloosa’s beautiful Riverwalk, I envisioned a place where children could play, get exercise and enjoy the beauty of the Black Warrior River,” said Terry Saban, co-founder of the Nick’s Kids Fund.
The event will also highlight the 22 recipients of the Nick’s Kids Teacher Excellence Awards. This award recognizes elementary and middle school teachers that have not only exhibited excellence in the classroom, but have also supported their students outside of the school setting and served the Tuscaloosa community as a whole. Each recipient was nominated by their school principal and chosen by a committee at Nick’s Kids.
“This playground is a perfect example of what magical things can happen when people work together for the good of others,” Terry Saban said.
