Alabama women’s basketball assistant coach Kelly Curry was named to A Step Up Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame Class of 2025, the organization announced last Wednesday.
“I am extremely humbled and honored to receive this recognition,” Curry said. “I appreciate and thank A Step Up for all they have done to advance and recognize assistant coaches in the sport of basketball.”
Curry has spent the last 12 seasons as an assistant coach at Alabama, helping lead the Crimson Tide to the NCAA Tournament the past three seasons. He primarily works with perimeter players and handles scheduling and scouting.
He has played a significant role in coaching Alabama guard Aaliyah Nye in her three seasons with the program.
After Nye broke the program’s all-time 3-point shooting record against Auburn, head coach and wife of Kelly Curry, Kristy Curry, said that Nye spends hours in the gym training with him and puts in extra time with him before and after practices.
His coaching career began at Louisiana Tech, where he coached under Hall of Famer Leon Barmore in 1998. That year, the Lady Techsters posted a 30-3 record and reached the Final Four.
Before coming to the University in 2013, Curry spent seven years at Purdue (1999-2006) and Texas Tech (2006-2013).
The induction ceremony will occur on May 21 in Charlotte, North Carolina, at Queens University.
